Well it has been a few weeks since I have blogged. In the 2 weeks post marathon, I managed just
a single run. In the first week, walking
was a struggle let alone running. The
second week I was busy with family and work but I was finding excuses easy to
come by, not to be able to run. To be honest the second week, I felt I had lost
my va va voom a bit (probably still smarting over my school boy error of not
hydrating probably during the marathon).
But this week I am back in the groove and this is one advantage I feel
of being part of a running club.
I joined Petts Wood Runners in the Autumn last year. If you have read my Project 26.2 blogs you
will know how I have commended both the club and individuals due to their
support and the camaraderie. Well this
week it was good to get back out for a Tuesday night group run (6 miles).
This Saturday, I was involved in my first mob-match, which
basically entails two clubs running against each other with points awarded for
finishing positions. Petts Wood Runners
were taking on Beckenham Runners at the Bromley Parkrun. Once again the camaraderie of the club shone
through with 60 PWR’s in attendance as opposed to the 29 attendees from
Beckenham. This friendly competition was
won by PWR (I believe only the first 29 finishers for PWR counted for the
points scoring) but I was proud to be one of those 29 and achieve a new PB for
5k of 21:53. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/177401311
Running Geek?
It was great to see the faster PWR finishers waiting around
the finish line to encourage home all of the other club members.
So now it seems I am a proper runner and a member of a
running club, or as my wife put it, I am becoming a ‘running geek’ which
I have to admit is true. Now, whenever I
see a runner I find myself looking at
what running shoes they are wearing! But
I am not just a member of Petts Wood Runners, I am now the Publicity and
Communications Officer. As I am quite a
shy quiet person, I thought this role would help me come out of my shell a bit!
Until next time, TJH
